Michael Wilkinson - Brief Biography

Michael Wilkinson was born in Castleford into a family who worked in mining for three generations. He made that four generations with a stint down the mine himself, before moving on. His work has appeared in many magazines, including Stand Magazine, Smiths Knoll, Iota, Other Poetry, Books Ireland, Seam, Writers Inc., Tears in the Fence, and The Third Alternative, among others. His first collection is the well-received Dancing Fish, Spout Publications, followed by the collaborative project with Dave Wilders, Camaraderie of Dust, a collection of poetry and images funded by Yorkshire Arts, which culminated in a book and a touring exhibition featured on BBC TV. He won a placement on the Arts Council and BBC initiative ‘Write Out Loud’ and is a prize winner in prose and verse. Circumstances dictated a change in focus and a concentration on invention as the architect of six granted patents that led to prize-winning products distributed worldwide, establishing a brand respected for innovation and quality. But writing is his heartbeat, which he cannot ignore and is now his priority, the winner of possibly the largest poetry competition in the world, the prestigious erbacce-prize for Poetry 2023.

He is exteremly proud of being an erbacce poet.

The culmination of which is A Net of Strange Voices, erbacce press
