A Brythonic (Brigantean) warrior chieftain, such as was buried with a chariot in Fryston Park, Castleford. On his helmet, the wings are ravens, who were messengers, omens and companions of sovereignty - guardians of liminal space. He wears gold for prestige, and its magical properties. This man I have called Branoc, the Venerated. For that is what he was, venerated for centuries. The Brigantes would have dressed similarly. Here he represents Elmet, the last Brythonic tribe of England, arguably made possible by his lingering presense in myth landscape.

The Chariot

The files below detail what the archaeologists discovered, unedited, which is of great significance to the story of Elmet. The link below takes you to a page describing Elmet's story, the last chapter outlining the significance of the chariot in this fascinating story.
